Virgin Loss

Gone the primal murmuring pines and hemlocks,
That covered much of North America in green,
Ten thousand years or more since the last Ice Age.

Gone are the tribes of wise people who wandered,
Beneath the canopy of those giants for so long,
Leaving them untouched with customs, sage.

But the greedy from Europe saw nothing but wealth,
Took the timber for building and changed the land,
Into a Jeffersonian pastoral Europe like, colonial rage.

But gentrification meant cities and manufacturing,
Polluting the land, water and air, everywhere.
Over population, consumption, turned the page.

We have a chance to let some virgin lands grow,
But it will take insight, planning and more.
If the virgin forest can return to the stage.

Virgin

Virgin Forest of Longfellow's Evangeline Ron AI

We have lost so much virgin forest.
We have to let some of it grow back.
