My mother,  Nina M. Hull, was born on a farm in North Central Wisconsin in 1925.  Everything they had came from the farm and what the woods and river ajoining the farm could provide.  Cooking was part of Mom's chores from an early age, and by 11 she was cooking pies for the large threshing crew that would thresh their oats in late summer.  I often wondered why she was such a better cook than her mother.  When I asked, Mom told me that she learned cooking from her home economics class in high school!  
       Here you will find recipes Nina has written in her meticulous handwriting from as early as 1940, two years before I was born. Some of the recipes are written in other hands, like my grandmother's or my cousin's. Mom often gave credit to whoever gave her the recipe.  With two sets of twin boys and our sister, Mom was always cooking up meals and treats for us, while we licked the spoons and ate scalding hot cookies right out of the oven.  Our friends always wanted to hang around for a baked treat or a meal rather than go home.  Nina baked bread into her 80s and there always was fresh bread for toast and sandwiches in the breadbox. She no longer has to cook, and is enjoying the food at the assisted living center where she resides. Enjoy her recipes!
